Am I a Writer?

When I was a kid I used to DEVOUR books.
It was everything to me. My dad, who was a single parent with a long commute and a hard time raising two kids, took us every weekend to the library. We’d pick out books (about 6-8) and take them home and read them throughout the week. He’s also an avid reader, by the way. It made me happy to have that in common.
Later on, when I was about 11 my dad went on a trip to Lima (which if you don’t know is the capital of my home country Peru) and he came back with a gift. It was this new book that had come out and was really popular all over the world (or so he had read in a newspaper). And he wanted me to read it in case it was good.
It was Harry Potter and the Philosopher’’s Stone. I may have mentioned in a previous post but that book reignited something in me, aka my love for reading, but also birthed something entirely new: my desire to write.
Make no mistake, the book is definitely tainted for me now with everything JK Rowling has decided to say about trans people. There’s just no getting around that. But my perspective on it right now is that perhaps it’s on all of us to become the next JK Rowling. The better JK Rowling. Not necessarily in terms of the writing, although I guess an argument could be made about the quality of the Harry Potter series. Instead I mean better about being using that power that an author wields and using it as a weapon to fight for those that are being oppressed by our society.
Anyway, along the way I kind of stopped writing but I think now is the time to start again. These coronavirus days have me blogging more than ever.
For now here’s the plan:
For the next week so lets say before August 20th, I want to scan/digitally upload all my working files for my book series Alexandre Stone.
From August 20th to August 30th, I want to go over and complete, as much as I can, my vision of the world.
Starting in September I want to write every week. I want to work on a chapter a week. No matter the quality. No matter the length. I want to push through.
I’ll update this page along the way so make sure to follow along @bookiemonster on social media.
All the best.
